We were limited for time, the location was new to us, and the hour and a half Speed boat journey to this elopement destination was like a Big Dipper ride, but we kept ourselves focused with the ‘Googled knowledge’ that the beach and water in the Yasawa Islands was absolutely flawless.
Through the white knuckle highs and lows of two 250 engines tussling against the oceans late morning rise (like it had gotten out of the wrong side of the bed) we envisioned a picture perfect tourist brochure beauty…but on arrival the sky was overcast (with rain predicted) and the incoming gnarly tide had already begun to swallow up most of the white sandy beach. At least we weren’t sea sick.
Manuela and Elmi had travelled all the way from Switzerland to elope in Fiji, and we were going to ensure that they got the wedding of their dreams, we just needed to improvise, adapt, & overcome.
…and in its right time, the clouds gave way to light, and the ocean to the beach, throwing up salutes of colours as if to rhetorically remark “weren’t we worth the wait!”
Manuela: “I remember walking down from the bure next to the warrior and seeing my husband to be under the floral arch at the beach! And then as he turned and I held his hands it was the look in his eyes, full of love for me, in that exact moment it was like pure magic.”
Elmi: “When the band started to play and Manu came down to me, I was pretty nervous but as I turned around and saw my wonderful wife, all of a sudden my shaky hands started to calm… and I could enjoy the rest of the unforgettable day.”
“The most emotional moment of the day was when we were reading a letter from my mum and his best man to each other and before we finished the ceremony the sun suddenly broke through the clouds as if somebody above was taking care of us and sending us a sign”
Advice for future brides:
“There is no need to get nervous about weather conditions, hair/make up or the perfect wedding coordination. Even if you try to organize everything perfectly, in the end it doesn’t matter what happens on your wedding day.
The most important thing to remember is that you’re getting married to the love of your life!
This is what it makes a perfect day!”
“I’m so thankful to my lovely husband for letting my secret girly dream of being married in Paradise to the man of my dreams become true.
We also want to thank the Octopus resort staff and the people from the village who organized the floral arch and helped us through the day with everything.
Our special thanks goes Ropate and Gitte ‘The Kama’s’! You spent so much time with us, made such a great effort to come all the way to the Yasawa’s and tried to catch all the wonderful moments of the day with so much passion!
It’s amazing to see how much you love photography what a great team you both are, you made sure that that our wedding day was the best day of our life and that we keep all the emotional moments not only in our heart, we can now keep them forever as pictures.”
